Statement

Date: July 20, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley two Talent Search grants starting September 1, 2016 for a total of five years. The awards are in the amounts of $434,400 (re-instated every 5 years since 1992) and $240,000 (new amount this year). The awards are given under the TRIO Talent Search Program.

"I wish to congratulate UTRGV for receiving two Talent Search grant awards from the U.S. Department of Education -- an existing award that has been extended in the amount of over $400,000 and a new award in the amount of $240,000. This TRIO Talent Search funding will help greater numbers of underserved high school students in my congressional district have the resources necessary to successfully navigate the process of applying and being admitted to colleges and universities in Texas and beyond. Our nation must continue to encourage all students to prepare for college and careers."
